It’s been announced this afternoon that after our long pursuit of the German International Andre Schurrle, it has almost come to an end. Both clubs have agreed a fee and the only thing left to do is agree personal terms (he wants to join Chelsea so that’s easy), a medical and all the paperwork. Schurrle expressed his regret last year when he was unable to sign for Chelsea so agreeing personal terms shouldn’t be too difficult. The fee is reported at around £18M. Want to see what the odds are on him starting the first game of the season? Head over to Unibet now!

This is what the Chelsea website said: “Chelsea Football Club and Bayer Leverkusen have reached an agreement for the transfer of Andre Schurrle. The deal is subject to the completion of legal documentation and related matters, including personal terms and passing a medical.”

I personally have not seen much of his guy’s talent but from what I have heard/read he is going to add something different to the Chelsea side, something we have been missing since the days of Robben and Duff. A winger. He is quick, good on the ball and still only 22 years old. He scored 11 goals in 34 league games for Leverkusen last season, who finished in the third and final automatic Champions League qualifying place.

The Director of Leverkusen had this to say: “We have made it clear from the beginning that Andre Schurrle’s departure would only be possible only if we found an adequate alternative.

“We have now found this alternative by signing Heung-Min Son and thus, in our view, there is nothing to stand in the way of Andre Schurrle’s move.”

So what do you think of our first signing of the season? Do you rate him? Will he set the Premier League alight? Let us know at Chelsea Talk.

Welcome to Chelsea, Andre Schurrle! Let’s hope he turns out to be a fantastic signing. One thing we can guarantee is he adds squad depth which is something we really lacked last season.
